It can be quite windy to a point where it becomes problematic.  The fog can pose a problem as well but the day we went the weather was almost too perfect. You could even see the Farallon islands from the bridge and that's a clear day. I almost think a small amount of fog would have been more picturesque.

29 Jan 2012     One of the most famous landmarks of San Francisco is the Golden Gate Bridge. I have seen it before but never had occasion to walk across. It's not as big a task as you might think. Even at a leisurely pace you can do it in under an hour each way.

One does not normally drive up a mountain to see an antique race car, but that's exactly what we did though totally unplanned.  This guy had driven up the mountain in his restored Model T racer, so naturally we stopped to admire it. It still runs great he said.

The actual summit is inside a building, naturally I had to pose.

On the way back we stopped at the Redwood regional park. It was getting dark but we managed a quick walk among the redwood trees. Even in silhouette they are magnificent.

Ready to begin

This is one of those cable thingies. I think they must do something important, like hold the bridge up or something.

One problem we had was that it was especially crowded. Normally bicycle traffic has one side of the bridge, pedestrians the other. But on our day the bike side was closed for maintenance work so everyone used one side.

You can probably tell it's a bit (or a lot) contrast enhanced but this is a picture of the sunset from the bridge.

I don't have the picture I took of the young couple we met on the the way back because I used their camera. He had just proposed to her on the bridge and it was the first photo of them after getting engaged. I congratulated them both. Now whenever they see this famous bridge they will be reminded of that day. I  hope it remains a happy memory for them; it's not always so in this crazy world.

Well it seems laziness can strike at any time and it's high time I posted an update.

One thing on our "gotta do" list was visit my Aunt who lives in Chico CA. For that we definitely needed a car. So we got one for a couple of day and on the first day decided to visit Mt. Diablo. California has been suffering a very bad drought and the mountain was dry dry dry and the air was hazy. Nevertheless it was an opportunity to get this picture of my Brother Carl and I.

15 Jan 2012
My Mother was one of four sisters and a brother. My Aunt “Pinky” is the last of that crowd. I am happy to report that she is doing great at 88 years. My brother Carl and I visited her in the town of Chico took her to lunch downtown.

We later found out that Chico has a massive city park called Bidwell Park, 3,670 acres. We plan to check it out next time.
