A big selling point for the camera I have is that it's waterproof. I figured I would be needing that feature all the time in all sorts of wild locations. So after carrying it for almost two years I FINALLY got a chance to test it in the water - in the swimming pool in the burbs!

I ended up cooling my heels for about two months here at the house of my old college buddy Paul in the suburbs of Mt. Airy Maryland. Paul had a couple of trips planned for himself and while he was out of town I took care of his little dog Nathan.
Jerre lives in New Jersey and comes for visits and BBQ.
In case you are wondering, the new job is a managers position at Ruth's Chris Steakhouse. So naturally we went to Ruth's Chris in Arlington for dinner. As a new member of the family he got special treatment, the best seat in the house. That restaurant has an amazing view, you can watch planes landing at Ronald Reagan Airport and see both the Washington monument and the Capitol building (arrows). And yes, the steak was phenomenal.
But I also had preparations to make. By now I had decided to make a trip to Taiwan to visit my niece. It was time to renew my passport. Also, at that time, a Tourist Visa wavier was only good for 30 days in Taiwan (it's 90 now). I wasn't sure if that would be enough, so I also applied for a Visa while I was hanging out here.
I got my plane ticket. As the day got close I did one little tourist stop in New York before catching the plane. A visit to the Empire State building.
11 Aug 2012 And, in another amazing bit of synchronicity, when Paul wasn't traveling I managed a day trip to see my old time friend Fred, who had recently accepted a new job and was in Virginia doing some intensive training. We managed to spend a little time walking around in D.C.
