10 Oct 2012 One of the typical tourist things we did was visit Taipei 101. It has 101 floors and with a height of 1,437 ft to the highest occupied floor it ranked officially as the world's tallest from 2004 until the opening of the Burj Khalifa in Dubai in 2010.

7 Oct 2012 On a different note not far away is the Sun Yat-Sen memorial.

The honor guard is one of that extremely disciplined elite core who can stand still almost like statues.

Tall building like this have a problem with sway. The answer is to have a big counterweight inside that reduces the building sway. In Taipei 101 is a 728 ton ball, painted gold and on display.

But it's not enough to have a 728 ton spherical tuned mass damper. You've got to make it fun for kids.

How do you make a 728 ton spherical steel tuned mass damper fun? Well, how about you create a cute cartoon character and toys based on it. You call them uhhh, ummm ...

Damper Baby  ???     DAMPER BABY ????

Yeah Yeah, Dats it. And we can sell Merch !!!

If you look closely you can see the spherical Core Pacific City building in the night shot below. Slightly above and left of center.

28 Oct 2012 And naturally I had to take some time to visit the computer/electronics store district. I did buy some things but I found it not so convenient. It's organized as a huge number of independent shops many selling the same thing so finding what you wanted involved a lot of leg work. A little like the old "computer shows" we used to go to. And comparison shopping even more a workout. I did not think the pricing was much better than if you shopped carefully in the states. I guess you have to do your due diligence anywhere you shop.

And here is a picture of an electronics store for my friends who are into electronics.

Hmmmmm look at the size of those Variacs.

PHOTO ALBUM AND VIDEOS

So here is a Web Album of some of my City Life Photos
Once again, Good place for a slideshow

As I get near the end and wind down, I still a few several video clips to share
Here are not one, not two, but THREE video clips

I took the high speed train from southern Taiwan back to Taipei.X It was a super smooth ride.  The train covers the 200 miles from Kaohsiung to Taipei in about an hour and a half.

It can hit a top speed of over 180 MPH. It was evening, see the pretty lights go by.

Continuing the mass transit theme here is our cable car ride

And this shop was drawing attention with a guy in costume inspired by a video game  (and a cute girl in leather handing out literature).

And here is a picture of a cute dog for Paul.

He had one kinda like this, Nathan who has recently gone to doggie heaven. He had a great life with Paul and will rest in Peace.
